Pros

Employment security as NHS is an established organisation. Consistent pay. Diverse work group of people to engage and learn with. Some managers are good team examples and good leaders

Cons

Many managers I observed get too emotional in staff interactions. Many managers/team leaders lack leadership skills which evident in their staff interactions. Thirty minutes (30 mins) ‘lunch’ break for all staff (nationwide). Bullying in some departments is rampant and appears to be ‘ignored’ by managers even when staff say ‘it’s happening’. Department managers consistently work from home 4 days a week and in office about 4 days a month but being paid ‘Manager’ …, of their home.

Pros

Great sense of purpose and meaning in the work. Colleagues are genuinely dedicated and supportive. Good variety of tasks day to day, and you gain a wide range of clinical and interpersonal skills quickly. Job security is a major plus.

Cons

Staffing levels are often stretched thin, which puts pressure on everyone. Pay hasn't kept pace with the demands of the role. Management can feel disconnected from frontline realities, and communication from the top down is inconsistent.
