Low Pay but nice coworkers - Product Manager NFP Employee Review

Low pay and I did not like how they handled the pay increase conversation. I told them I was willing to come in at a lower pay rate, but that I did not want them to consider that pay rate when it came time for a raise. The agreed, but after 1 year, they said they were constrained by corporate pay increase percentage limits. When I appealed by proving that was not what we discussed, the relationship soured.
