Pros

The people are great. Most are hired via employee referrals so everyone tends to mesh well. You will get immediate access to one of the largest technology firms in the world, Oracle. It typically takes about one to two years before new hires really start to make a positive impact on the sales team. In order to be successful you must do the following: Build solid business partnerships with key Oracle Account Executives and their management teams. This is not done overnight and will take some time especially if you are a new hire. It's virtually impossible to build relationships with Oracle sales when you first start because you know nothing about Oracle's business practices, software licensing models, end user license agreements, licensing rules, contracts negotiation, discount structures, etc. Once you thoroughly understand all this and more you can start making an impact against your team’s quota, and building a solid reputation internally at Oracle. This job is very unique in that we essentially have two customers. Our end users (the real customer), and then we have Oracle (the manufacturer of the products we resell). You need to understand how to sell your value to both and be able to navigate internal Oracle politics so the end result is one that benefits your end user, Oracle, and Mythics. Easier said than done. Once you've established yourself within Oracle as a sharp, hardworking, professional you may want to start looking for job opportunities with the manufacturer as there is zero potential for career advancement within Mythics once you reach a certain level. Again, it will take a new hire several years to get to this point, but the skills you may acquire during this time should make you an attractive prospect for Oracle if you pursue that path. Mythics is a well-respected Oracle Value Added Reseller. It is an excellent place to start if you would eventually like to end up at Oracle.

Cons

Once you reach a certain level in sales there is zero opportunity for advancement. There is a core group of sales "VPs" that have been with the company since its inception. They will never quit (too much $$$) and they will never get fired. Underneath that layer is a group of "Sales Directors" who have also been with the company since the beginning, but not soon enough to make the "VP" cut. Most likely these folks will never quit or get fired, but they will never be VPs either. Underneath the VPs and the Directors you have the Product Sales teams. These folks are the lifeblood of the company. Without product sales all the other organizations within Mythics would cease to exist. Product Sales owns the relationships with Oracle and the end users. Nearly all leads come through them, and then get funneled down to the other organizations. Unfortunately, over the past several years executive leadership has taken the Product Sales teams for granted, and seems to believe that business just magically appears by virtue of the contracts we hold. What they don't seem to understand is that if their Senior Product sales reps were to leave, it would be detrimental to the all the organizations within the company. They would have to back fill those senior positions with recent college grads or folks from the support organization, and then wait for two years until they finally develop into an effective sales rep that generates profit for the company. The "VPs" would have to revert back to being Products Sales reps themselves or risk losing massive amounts of business while waiting for their new hires to ramp up. The contracts would still be in place, but without the relationships and experience your most senior people possess it wouldn't matter. There are countless Oracle resellers just like Mythics, and rest assured if a new Product Sales rep botches a deal for Oracle, they will go elsewhere and most likely never come back. Sure, you can prospect for business without Oracle which you should be doing anyway, but you will be much more successful if you work both angels. It is an unfortunate situation really. You have folks that sincerely love the company, are exceptional at what they do, make all the other organizations possible, and really don't want to leave, but have no opportunity to advance their career internally and no financial incentive to stay. You need at least one of the two if you want to keep good people; ideally you would have both. With all that said, Mythics is still a great place to start your career in technology sales, but if you are motivated to reach a higher level of professional and financial success; get the experience, build your relationships, and then move on.
