The worst company - still gobsmacked. - Recruitment Mortimer Bell International Employee Review

Pros

Absolutely none - don’t be fooled by the positive reviews, they’re written by the team themselves!

Cons

I haven’t given this company much thought since I left but in my new job I was sitting in an anti-bullying and harassment talk and almost every point mentioned drew me back to thinking about this place. An incredibly toxic environment, riddled with bad behaviour and bullying (mostly by the kid in charge), and he really is a kid. I’m not really sure how this company is still going to be honest. Minimum pay, absolutely no benefits (except a very generous £10/month for gym membership) and a free lashing of dread for your daily commute. You’ll be sworn at, constantly put down and be forced into working well beyond your contracted hours and lose all work-life balance, consequently causing you to waste precious days of your life. If you want to build a good career do not start here, I feel sorry for the current employees because they don’t even realise how much better they can do. Unless you enjoy being harassed, seeing your friends be reduced to tears, enjoy a culture laced with pure disregard and disgusting behaviour, and you have no self-respect, this will not be the place for you. I have no doubt I’ll be contacted to take this down before too long but nothing I’ve written is untrue so I’ll not be doing that, and what have I got to lose - the bully’s already written me a bad reference (oh yes, did I forget to mention you better watch out for your future job prospects as the owner is such an egotistical demon that he won’t even let people move on ha!) - although luckily for me I got the job anyway (10/10 for effort though mate).

Pros

I joined as a Graduate fresh out of King's College London and with no clue about recruitment! It was tough, but I did receive the tools to become a good recruitment consultant and the advantage to working in an SME is that you can ask the Director for advice. Relaxed approach to work attire and a friendly office environment really make the long days fly by, and the office location right in the centre of Newcastle is a benefit. A table-tennis table was definitely a good investment. I haven't experienced other Recruitment firms to be honest, but I think the discretionary benefits/bonuses are above and beyond what I expected out of any employer. So far, I have been fortuitous enough to part-take in Lunch Clubs, Fun Days and Poker Tournaments (or should that be misfortune). Alongside this I have learnt a lot and been given numerous opportunities. I have certainly learnt how to get more out of a day in this job! Overall just a friendly office in a fast-pace industry based in the heart of Newcastle.

Cons

In fairness most of the cons of working here are like that in every SME, such as an undeveloped support network (i.e. no big IT/HR teams). As with most sales jobs if you go a long time without billing the hours do tend to drag and your mood in the office is affected by this mainly because some things are just beyond your control!

Pros

- Training - Commission Scheme - Friendly Culture - Modern Offices - Market Presence - Incentives I have been working full time at MBI for less than a year and everything is going great so far. The company provide thorough training and support to new employees to ensure that you get up to speed as fast as possible. Everyone in the office is very welcoming and friendly and they all provide help and advice with anything that you may be struggling with. The commission scheme is excellent and gives you a great incentive to work hard. As well as the commission, there are loads of other incentives such as bottles of champagne, fun days out if we hit targets, lunch club and other prizes for various achievements. The company is in a great position within the market and we work with many household name clients. There aren't many companies where a graduate can come in and, within 2 months, start doing business with Fortune 500 companies. The future is looking very bright and I can see myself being at MBI for many years to come.

Cons

The recruitment industry can be tough and hard work is essential if you want to succeed. Luckily, MBI have all the infrastructure in place to provide support and help you achieve any financial goals you may have.
