Pros

I was able to build close friendships and relationships with my colleagues with whom I still keep in touch with today, exposed to students with different disabilities, training provided for all staff, you will get to know everyone at the school, including teachers, admin staff, and students, amazing networking opportunities, etc.

Cons

Low pay, some teachers favor aides more than others, when there are too many aides in one classroom, social problems occur that take more priority than helping the students, there was some favoritism amongst staff, small school so everyone knows each others' business, no raises when I was there,

Pros

I laugh every day, whether it's with students or staff. Classroom team has a close bond, but may take time to break into the social group. People are very friendly, and school culture is very positive. Lots of breaks during the year. Offers full medical/dental for you, but not family.

Cons

Quality of the lead teacher (in terms of supervision of your work, leadership ability, affect) varies wildly from room to room. It's essentially luck of the draw where you get placed. Pay is difficult to survive on unless you have a second job. You will be injured by a student eventually, it is just a matter of how severe it is. Not a meaningful amount of training, you learn by doing. It will feel extremely disorganized for the first few months until you get a handle of the schedules and the individual needs of the students.
