Pros
Compensation starts of great with benefits for full time management after your wait period. The customers were almost always happy and visiting pets made the day go by faster. Certain amount of creativity was required to dress the store. Relaxed dress code that allowed for your own personal style. Being able to help staff grow and development was my greatest joy.
Cons
Pay for the remaining staff was terrible and there was high turnover since other retailers could beat us on price and perks. Lots of fresh faces because of that. Key-holders got terrible hours since they only filled in the gaps and upper management wouldn't allow them to go above a certain number of hours a week. This meant scheduling was tight when short staffed and a nightmare when people quit unexpectedly. Upper management never seemed to want to help the stores and always sounded upset to hear from us. They will find any reason to not give you a raise. Bigger stores received special treatment, attention and all of the inventory.
