Pros

Students are an absolute joy

Cons

1. There has been years of toxic culture built into the system, such that new employees either learn to contribute to this toxicity to survive or become victims to it. Tenured teachers micromanage and nitpick new teachers to point where it should be considered bullying. Ironically these teachers are not using best practices or evidence based practices to teach. Similar to toxic army culture of hierarchy, these teachers push down on inexperienced teachers instead of guiding or lifting them up. 2. There is absolutely no respect for students here. Some students are minimally verbal but that does not mean they should be treated this way. Students are yelled at, man-handled and made to do humiliating things like "talk to a dustbin" as forms of "punishment." And these are tenured teachers or even senior teachers. Teachers have compared students to dogs receiving behaviour training. It's absolutely sick. I was so happy to leave. Teachers need to re-trained and educated on the science behind behaviour management and how to treat neurodivergent people. 3. Pay is terrible

Pros

We enjoy the same bonus payout as civil servants. Official working hours is short, 7+ hours. Paid school holidays but staff seminar week can be long. AHP department is nice and helpful though it’s lacking in manpower. There’s budget given to us to purchase classroom supplies.

Cons

Burnout is real due to the amount of prep work and paperwork. We have to wear multiple hats, especially in this school, besides CCAs, we have separate Performing Arts and Visual Arts classes. And yes, we do have to organise school events and celebrations as well. Beware of the toxic culture and high stress levels in the A Junior program; the former and current (deputy) heads, are notorious for driving people away. The turnover is unusually high — almost all the teachers left after completing their DISE bond. Promotion of our sped grades (and salary) is rather biased too. There is also a lack of professional development in this school; p, vps, heads and STs don’t seem competent enough to guide and lead us in teaching. But I must say the numeracy curriculum developer delivered an informative pd workshop during the year-end seminar, and he’s always very helpful and responsive; it’s a pity that he had left too.

Worst management ever! And you have to be a yes person. Once you sound out your suggestion or disagree with something. You will be marked 100%!
