Pros
It's the top of the field, best orchestra and soloists to work with, best sets and costumes. It has benefits (403b, pension). Off for a number of weeks in the summer.
Cons
Long hours during the season. Difficult to get vacation days/nights off. Massive amount of memorizing in multiple languages on a deadline. Singers are super spreaders of all contagious diseases like Covid and flu.
