Pros
Families and people Metrocare supports Free generic medications if enrolled in Metrocare's Health Insurance Plan Gaining a good understanding of the Human Services field. Con: Metrocare causes employees to learn to hate the Human Services field. People, especially new grads, need to know it isn't like this and this bad everywhere. Submitting my resignation very soon. Con: I waited entirely too long to resign. I have always prided myself on doing a great job by the people and families that need my help. But Metrocare's unfortunate focus on bench and resulting bullying and threats along with high turnover, translates into no time for quality services. While I completely understand the need for employees to bill their time, it would seem to me that there has to be a better way to increase efficiency and treat employees so they don't feel so worthless, inadequate and treated like toddlers that need constant reprimanding and threats to meet expectations. Human Resources does a good job trying to provide various motivational events and activities for employees, but Metrocare needs to understand those things do not keep employees around. No contest, party or event can make up for the damage done by threats, bullying and unrealistic expectations ie. very high and unreasonable workloads. I am saddened to notice and realize my "Pros" have been overshadowed by the problems I see at Metrocare. Which in and of itself speaks volumes. I truly only meant to list Pros here.
Cons
I learned why turnover is so high at Metrocare. In reading reviews of Metrocare prior to becoming employed, I didn't understand what people meant by "bullying and threats". I was able to learn in my first 4 weeks of employment what those words meant, and unfortunately those 2 things are 50 percent of the reason why I will be leaving. The bullying and threats revolve around making bench. Bench is a billing quota one must attain on a monthly basis to prove your worth and stay employed. The bullying and threats from supervisors (which obviously come from higher up) reinforce this protocol, which definitely makes your job a numbers game. While management wants quality, employees are unable to deliver that on a consistent basis due to the other 50 percent of the reasons causing me to leave which is insane workload, also known as caseload. Workload expectations are daunting and hopeless. And of course due to extremely high turnover, existing employees are forced to take on even more of a workload. The company saves money by paying fewer employees that are expected to fill in the gaps and bill even more, with no real reward by the way. I do not feel this is actually intentional. Metrocare wants to have more service coordinators, but as I mentioned, high turnover makes it difficult. The resulting con of working at Metrocare is becoming disillusioned with this field. I have never been at a job where this happened, so that's when I knew I needed to go. I'm good at what I do, so I know I need to be somewhere where I can shine. This results in excellent customer service to all people and families which is my number one priority.
