Pros

Evidence-based medicine and quality patient care are very important to management. Unit managers are very accommodating for time off. Close-knit atmosphere and pleasant coworkers are a plus. This hospital has plenty of free parking and is situated in a very nice area. It is often possible to pick up an extra shift in one's own unit. Education is promoted, which includes access to CINAHL databases and 12 hours of paid in-person classes for free. This is a wonderful hospital for new grads because the most acute patients are shipped to Long Beach Memorial. Very clean facility. Non-profit company, so they focus on serving the community, rather than profits. This is evident in little ways, such as patient-centered care, allowing a little OT when something unexpected comes up, looking at new units/departments to serve patients in the community.

Cons

MemorialCare promotes the idea that employees can transfer to any facility after working for 6 months, but it is not possible to actually obtain a transfer to other facilities. Ambitious people beware. Cross-training to other units within facility is not authorized. Pay is a bit lower here than at Long Beach Memorial.
