Pros

- Easy to get hired - Coworkers are (for the most part) helpful and nice - Work is easy to learn and basic

Cons

- They overwork their employees Working 5 days per week part time One of their "core values" is "family", which I guess is true... but you'll be working for and serving their family company and will never get to see your own family. - Odd hours. One day, I'll work until close, and the next morning, I'll have to work early. - Management ignores personal availability completely. - I was left alone to work in the bakery multiple times when I wasn't completely trained. I had no idea what I was doing, and there was too much work for one person to complete in such a short amount of time. - Stressful work environment. Deadlines are important, and if you don't meet them, someone's going to get mad. Don't work here if you have depression or anxiety - trust me. - Manager doesn't understand what is realistic in terms of what is humanly possible. Making more product than necessary is common, and we are left to throw out way too much leftover items. - When speaking up about certain issues, manager doesn't care and will just say "You'll be fine," while also telling you to do even more work than you were supposed to. - Helping customers becomes a huge distraction from the work you're supposed to be doing. Kids will ask for a free cookie every 3 minutes, people will order cakes frequently, and you have to write on cakes for them often. - Union dues take $15 (two hours worth of pay) from your paycheck every week after the first month of working there... and the Union does nothing for you, except take your money. My overall advice: Do NOT work for Meijer. They are a terrible company that only cares about money and couldn't care less about its employees, and it gets worse as they continue to expand. They don't care if they overwork you or if you need certain days off; you will only do as they say - no compromise. For minimum wage, working at Meijer is not worth it. You will be pushed to your limits for only $8.50 an hour. Your coworkers may or may not work as hard as you; if they don't, you'll be stuck doing everything. Overall, I now understand why there's such a HUGE turnover rate. People are smart to leave Meijer when they can. I'm currently trying to find a new job before I quit...

Pros

Great company and benefits. The Meijer Credit Union is amazing and being able to work remote is a blessing.

Cons

Not much recognition for individual contribution. Recognition systems on the whole are great though especially for the company's size

Pros

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
