Ineptitude and mismanagement - Project Manager Media Genesis Employee Review

Pros

It used to be the people were nice and the middle management was great. Now even that is gone. We do have some ok events now and then. And the health insurance, however poor it is, is covered.

Cons

The nightmares start from day one. The company adheres to one guiding principle: if you don't give employees credit, you don't have to pay them well. If you work in creative, you will have the President over your shoulder, daily, questioning what you do and taking credit for all your work. If you are in Project Management, like I have been, your times in and out and lunch are watched like a hawk while you get no leadership from management, and when you make a mistake (or worse, a decision) you will be ripped apart. It didn't used to be so bad because the middle management made it tolerable and looked out for us, but those people got smart and left and whats left is rotten to the core. They will dock your time if you have a doctor appointment, but give nothing back if you work well past 40 in a week. And dont forget the hours tracking system that they all say doesn't mean anything - until they call you into HRs office to berate you over them too.

I am sorry you feel this way. As you’re a current employee, you know that we are doing our regular company survey in the next few weeks to assess how we can best continue to create a rewarding and engaging environment both within our company and through the many projects we manage. With that, we look forward to your more detailed feedback so we can continue to improve our work environment and address these concerns you have. You also know that we have increasingly shifted management to staff and have a management group composed of staff, so your feedback as employees has increasing control and input into the management of the company. That feedback is very valuable. In addition, I want to comment on a number of your specific concerns: - Regarding our culture and events: we do have many company events (often one or more a month) and several staff help coordinate those events and they almost always occur during working hours. It seems staff really enjoy these events and we dedicate time and dollars to make sure our team has fun and we do whatever we can to strengthen our relationship with each other. We highlight many of these events through our social media. - We do work hard to give employees credit all of the time. You will rarely ever hear anyone at Media Genesis in a meeting say “I” – we always encourage the use of “We” because our projects get done by our talented teams. We also have all company monthly meetings where we highlight projects and the impressive individuals that worked on that project. We want to make sure the focus is on the team members and their valuable contributions. - As far as schedules we are looking at even more flexible scheduling options, but one big overriding theme is work/life balance. Rarely do any staff need to work at night or on weekends. Some may totally choose to do some work on their own which is fine, but there is not any pressure from our leaders to have staff work after-hours. We do have an hours tracking system so we can gauge where we stand on projects and so we can learn from it for future quotes/projects, but we don’t use it to penalize staff. We want our projects to be successful and our clients to be very pleased with the end result. - As far as staff leaving we do have some turnover for various reasons (as I believe most companies do). We have many staff that have been here for 5, 10, 15, and even 20+ years (not counting me), so we do have many that have found it to be a good home for them. Sometimes we will have staff leave that are looking for new opportunities after a few years and we respect they want a new opportunity and wish them the best and hope they will stay in touch. There might also be times that it is just not a good match between the company and employee. - As far as anyone working less than someone else: I believe we are all hard working, but since we do care about work/life balance we do provide some flexibility to staff based on their unique situation or desired schedule change. We have a number of situations like this, but since our staff takes care of us we want to take care of them. I would hope staff would not see this as a negative. We utilize multiple communication systems that allow engaged remote communication so people who need to be reached can be reached – this includes me and our President and our staff can call on us 24 x 7. I have said in staff meetings that my door is always open and if there is ever a concern you have or something you are unsatisfied about I hope you will talk to me about it. Often issues are a simple communication issue, or maybe a change in our company guidelines can resolve a frustration, and we are open to whatever changes we may need to make to improve our company and staff satisfaction. I started the company over 21 years ago and I care a great deal about our staff and value and appreciate them tremendously.

Pros

I had a great experience doing engaging work on a wide array of projects. The people are great. I loved the culture and outings. Only left because I moved away. Keep up the good work!

Cons

Overwhelming at first as you get to jump in right away but there's a learning curve at any company.

Pros

Co-workers are nice, and that's about it.

Cons

Work is not creative at all, they have no real clients, just a hodge podge of cut and paste jobs. Owners are completely two-faced and dishonest.
