Pros

Work-life balance was valued and exceptional. The work and mission was meaningful and you worked with really bright and intelligent peers who really care about the mission of the organization. This factor alone made the culture of the organization unique and great. The job itself was also great in that you are put in positions where you had to rise up to the challenge: representing the state and Governor's office, learning to work with various types of local governments, and exposure to working directly with top companies and C-suites. The work experience itself was good for this reason. Good benefits.

Cons

Limited career growth in terms of pay and moving up the ladder. Even though the work is not supposed to be political, the organization can be political. Like most state agencies, top leadership is replaced with new administration so you should be prepared for changes every 4-8 years.

Pros

Great place to work for those with initiative as management can be flexible on direction and mentorship is abundant for those that seek it. Many people with vast experience and institutional knowledge to tap for help and direction. You will be given many chances to grow but should be proactive in your search for employment before the end of the internship. Communication with your leadership and other stakeholder groups is essential!

Cons

Can be difficult to traverse if you're not necessarily a go-getter. The path can be rather non-linear and growth has to be actively sought rather then set out in a curriculum.
