Pros
My MeVitae internship was an extremely worthwhile experience, with valuable practical exposure to marketing content creation in a dynamic tech setting. I had hands-on experience creating core marketing materials, including a detailed infographic, which entailed taking complex product information and making it digestible client-facing content. This included an in-depth exploration of learning about data inputs from a range of HR systems (ATS, HCM, CRM) and how they are rendered as actionable outputs and insights, e.g., diversity metrics. Being able to contribute to the intern blog post and deliver a final presentation also enabled varied project exposure. A highlight was the outstanding mentorship of my supervisor, Ainoa. Her patience and clarity of direction were constant aids to my learning, particularly in grasping more difficult concepts such as the difference between data inputs and outputs. She was very approachable, with timely, constructive feedback that greatly sped up my comprehension and confidence. Ainoa's clarity of direction was important throughout the internship, her skill in being able to state expectations clearly and direct my attention ("You are very clear. You know what direction you would put me. So I just follow your directions.") was key to my capacity to deliver. The focus on proactive communication and professional standards, such as ISO compliance in document management, also offered important lessons in workplace efficiency and discipline. I valued the flexibility in presentation format and overall positive environment that fostered learning and development.
Cons
There was initially a learning curve for me to get used to the pace demanded and to make my content as concise as possible for client-facing materials. There was also a phase when I had to work on my method of separating factual data inputs and benefits of the product in the infographic. Although these were individual learning points, more upfront examples or a more formal onboarding on the content style guides can potentially assist future interns to adjust even more quickly.
