Pros

A lot of the employees really believe and follow a family working philosophy, given you're not working alongside a bad one. The company has been adapting more of a philosophy for caring for the employee over the last years, things like health incentives and benefits. It feels like an employee run company, but with obvious upper management made significant decisions. Company has a good amount of perks, like ESOP, bonuses (sometimes), all in all- above average. Some leadership is realistically open to accept changes. The company is actively pursuing and getting work.

Cons

Work - Life balance, sometimes 80+ hr a week. I see some people put in reviews this is normal. But that's not true. Quality / Timeliness of delivering "products" is what leading construction companies expect - a Big impact of this is efficiency. A lot, not all, of McCarthy Leadership are stuck in the philosophy "if you're not spending the time, it's not enough". And that philosophy trickles down onto jobs and sections of offices. The main culprits of creating this, are longer-term employees who have reached forms of leadership - some don't belong there but are "vested".. McCarthy has been evolving rules, procedures, programs, divisions, etc.. Very few employees or leadership have a good grasp on these, or have enough understanding to develop this in other employees. Depending on your leadership or job, you'll face a significant amount of problems and get weighed down heavily in these. Jobs are usually spread too thin. The company doesn't have enough talent retention to properly staff jobs/positions usually, which again is not normal. Usually this is covered up by stating "we don't have the budget for it".

Pros

Great company culture, exposure to some amazing projects, project teams are fantastic, camaraderie with your team, great resources and onboarding to ensure you learn to do your job well. ESOP and bonuses are great.. if you stick it out long enough.

Cons

Pay is not as competitive as other GC's, you can be relatively underpaid as they rely too heavily on preaching about the ESOP (which takes you 5 years to even be fully vested). Can be very political and leadership kinda plays favorites, some people who dont deserve it get promoted quick and others who do deserve it never get promoted. Long work hours and depending on the jobsite it can be pretty high-stress (but thats just construction for ya).
