Pros

Managers are willing to listen, that does not mean they will necessarily respond the way you would like. Employees at McCarthy act like a family for the most part. If you need to take time off or come in late to handle personal matters here and there, the team is always supportive as long as communication is good.

Cons

Promotions seem to be awarded based on your manager's liking of you, not necessarily how you have excelled or improved the company's success. You have to be in the right group to get promoted. The expectations/requirements to receive a promotion are not consistent from manager to manager. Pay is not competitive with other companies in the area for the same positions. Individuals with construction management degrees make the same starting pay that individuals with technical/engineering degrees do. McCarthy is getting top notch individuals with technical degrees at a reduced cost to the company. Finally, McCarthy preaches "work/life success" because "it is not a balance;" however, the expectations of direct management are significantly higher than the expectations that executives preach. All of these factors lead to burn out really quickly.

Pros

Great company culture, exposure to some amazing projects, project teams are fantastic, camaraderie with your team, great resources and onboarding to ensure you learn to do your job well. ESOP and bonuses are great.. if you stick it out long enough.

Cons

Pay is not as competitive as other GC's, you can be relatively underpaid as they rely too heavily on preaching about the ESOP (which takes you 5 years to even be fully vested). Can be very political and leadership kinda plays favorites, some people who dont deserve it get promoted quick and others who do deserve it never get promoted. Long work hours and depending on the jobsite it can be pretty high-stress (but thats just construction for ya).
