Pros
I was brought on-board after losing my job due to downsizing in late August 2025, during which time I applied to over 500 positions across nine months. While this is evidence of how challenging the general job market is, especially for those who have graduated in recent years like myself, the entire onboarding process with the bank was thorough, concise, and most uniquely, friendly. Unlike my past interviewers, the bank consistently approached me with patience, kindness, and flexibility. They are also very accommodating for those with disabilities, at no point judging me or turning me away as I explained my limitations. What drew me in most about my position as a personal banker was the robust on-boarding, which began with a week of training and getting to understand the industry before officially starting my first true shift. I was accustomed to the cutting-edge technology, the nuances of checks, and the basics of deposits and withdrawals. As someone who has never been in banking before, I feel I was taught plenty of new skills at a good pace without being overwhelmed. I began my job at the Southborough branch, and while I have been on-board for just shy of a month, I can confidently say that this IS the place to work. Already, I feel as though I have been working with just this one team for months, rather than mere weeks. They began with initial shadowing, but let you function independently once you feel you're ready. At no point are they ever impatient or condescending, my superiors and coworkers always offering advice and encouraging that I ask questions. There's also comfort in knowing that you're never alone, and can always pull someone over quickly to guide your hand through new experiences, or if you just want some practice. The last thing I can say before this becomes a college thesis is the community across ALL branches is highly diverse, people of all ages, nationalities, and beliefs contributing their own talents while building a remarkably healthy work culture. On my first day of training, I was surprised by how many ways we can stay connected online and attend quarterly events to meet face-to-face, only two of a variety of mediums to keep us together which are highly encouraged. As someone who had always been apprehensive of customer experience, Main Street Bank and its team members in-office and behind the scenes, have collectively made me not just comfortable but excited about this new experience! So far, at no point have I felt overwhelmed or lost, thanks to their attentiveness and compassion for those willing to learn (there is ALWAYS more to learn!) no matter their experience. I am consistently blown away and impressed each day, because I never knew an industry which is so kind and efficient in equal measures existed. This IS a dream job, and I could never recommend Main Street Bank enough. If you're unsure, stop by one of the branches and see the conduct for yourself. That's what tempted me to apply to begin with!
Cons
The pay might begin low for some, HOWEVER, they are immediately transparent of when you can expect incremental increases and potential promotions. This is definitely not the type of industry which leaves you guessing or begging. As long as you work hard and demonstrate your care, there would be no reason to doubt your future. I genuinely cannot think of any other "cons." If you want a healthy community which thrives on efficiency and education, this is the place to be!
