Pros

Kids are fine, pay is decent compared to other similar companies but not enough to make the stress and hassle worth it.

Cons

Racist hiring practices, disorganized. The staff and other teachers are way too involved in social media drama. Head office people join all the Magic Ears and ESL groups, other teachers will “spy” and report back if you say anything on any Facebook group or page that could even remotely be viewed as negative. “Secondary Positions” are a joke and given out based on how much you parade yourself around social media and promote the company, people have positions training others after only working there a short time instead of being based on experience. The platform is awful, tech issues and a weird curriculum. They want you to basically have the kids parrot everything instead of actually learning English. They really don’t want actual teachers who can adapt to the students needs, just follow the script and have the kids repeat.

Thank you for your comment. We treat every candidate equally and definitely not screen our darling candidates based on their color. In effect, we are glad to give people a second chance if they unfortunately fail, let's say, their 1v1 training and we see great potentials in them. Teaching performance is what we value the most at the stage of demo classes and trial classes, etc. We endeavor to have our official teachers and candidates engaged on social media like Facebook because we try to build a place where teachers feel at home. They are free to leave questions and post meaningful moments and milestones they reach, whether it be for career development or life events. Teachers at secondary positions are paid to answer questions and find out conundrums to report to to the support team so that we can figure out an ultimate answer. Social media allow staff and teachers, who work remotely, to close up physical distance and reach intimacy. People have positions are experienced teachers, most of whom already ranked up to Magic Masters. Children at the early stage of second language acquisition have low level of proficiency. Listening and repeating are a huge part of language learning process and it is effective but it is just one part of our teaching objectives. Our curriculum are craftily designed by linguistic experts for children aged 5-12 with various life situations, which are helpful for situations that students might encounter if they travel to North America.

Pros

Pay is pretty good if you can commit to enough hours to earn bonuses

Cons

hours are Beijing time, so very early morning in the US They have switched to homeroom classes, so you can't just open your schedule on days you are available and get scheduled, which was what made this attractive before as a filler for when other jobs weren't as active
