Pros
Job security and longevity, if you'll put up with the toxic work environment and work like a dog on nights and weekends and holidays. You can also earn a promotion when the people more senior than you quit. Writing transit proposals is interesting work, but there are better companies to do it for.
Cons
Constant gaslighting and abusive comments by management, management taking credit for your work, being told you're overpaid and easily replaceable, inconsistent expectations, not getting raises for years despite excellent performance reviews, pitting coworkers against each other and fostering unhealthy competition instead of teamwork, inappropriate manager relationships with employees outside of work, revolving door of CEOs and their own senior executives every few years - to name a few. This was all in addition to a constantly soul-crushing workload. HR will not protect you. If you leave to go to a competitor, which in California you have every right to do, they will threaten you with legal action. Management will also lie about your character and work ethic to try to destroy your reputation, even if you left on good terms.
