MITRE is an amazing company, with top notch talent, mission orientation, and a unique role to play in service to our sponsors. We fill a niche of doing important strategic work for the government that is, for various reasons, not appropriate for commercial contractors, but the government cannot do it on their own. We get to do impactful, interesting, mission oriented work, more insulated from some of the politics that can come with working directly for government.
Cons
Our special contracting status with government sometime causes us to become insular and take our government work for granted. We do a lot of interesting research and development, made possible through government's investment in us, but we sometimes don't do the appropriate market research and validation with our government counterparts that the research fills a gap and brings value.
