Pros

Salary is decent 1st year employees get 3 weeks vacation, after 1 year all employees get 4 weeks vacation. The institute also closes the week between Christmas and New Years so its a bonus vacation you don't have to use your own time for. 12 Paid Holidays per year (and usually 1-2 'special' holiday closings, like the day before or after the 4th of July. Health Insurance (although pricey) covers just about everything Work from home

Cons

Your experience working at MIT really depends on who you work for. PI's (Principal Investigator aka Professor) can be hit or miss. Some i've worked with are extremely nice, others think they are better than everyone else and are rude and demanding.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
