Pros

Daytime shifts and can get good at a skill

Cons

Unhealthy workplace. Clients are highly anxious because they are worried about results. Workers are not educated on violence prevention or how to deescalate situations which are very common unfortunately in healthcare. Labs are understaffed and too small to provide enough care for populations. Staff regularly have shortened breaks for miss breaks because clients complaining about wait times. My coworkers were primarily immigrants and payed large amounts of money for schooling and then are paid a wage that you can’t get by on. Staff voted against continuing on strike because they could not afford to be on strike, even tho LifeLabs was trying to take away what little benefits we had during covid. During Covid, when the company was making huge amounts of money from doing covid testing. Staff were not educated on new systems just were provided with an email and a bunch of testing kits. Then are hit with lots of frustration and aggression from the public. Staffs hours can be changed and altered as they want. Staff can be given a 4.5hr shift so they only have to give them a 15min break or no break at all. So they can put on less staffing as well. I had some wonderful employees that gave it their all, I really hope their union is looking out better for them.
