Pros

Ideally located, LawRoom occupies space in an upscale office building, within walking distance of Pleasant Hill BART. There are many options for lunch closeby , as well as a pharmacy and a grocery store. It is a short drive to expanded shopping and other services, such as the post office. The office is clean and well decorated, providing a nice work environment. The company is financially stable and has great potential for continued growth over the next several years, and ownership remains open to new opportunites and directions which would continue to expand its possibilities. Senior management has been making changes to their approach, and many of the past issues have been resolved. The majority of the employees are personable, extremely competent and great to work with, which creates a positive work environment and culture. They genuinely like one another, have a great cooperative spirit, and will bend over backwards to help their co-workers. Ownership does care about its employees, (I don't think they get enought credit for this) and I am aware of them going "above and beyond" to help some of them with personal issues. Breakfast is provided each Friday in the form of bagels, pastries and, occasionally, "breakfast burritios". The kitchen is well stocked with coffee, tea, milk, fruit, nuts and candy, Work/life balance is excellent, and I have never been asked to sacrifice family needs on behalf of the organization. This is not to say we are never asked to put in extra time, but when we are it is due to some pressing need and not just for the sake of squeezing more time out of us. The CEO is very accessible. Anyone is welcome in his office, and he is always willing to listen to the ideas his employees bring to him. This doesn't mean he always agrees with them, but it is nice to know that he values the thoughts of those who are "working in the trenches". Overall, I have been treated very well during my employment at LawRoom. It has been a largely positive experience which I have both appreciated and enjoyed.

Cons

No company is perfect, including LawRoom. As I mentioned before, senior management has been implementing changes to our approach which will improve workflow, productivity and client service. However, some bottlenecks still exist which need improving. Our CEO is aware of this and I am confident he is working towards a solution. The good news is that. from my perspective, this is the only remaining "big issue" and once it is truly resolved our efficiency will be outstanding. At this stage of the organization's development, there is not much room for advancement. As it continues to grow this will change, but if you are looking for more immediate advancement it may not be to your satisfaction.

Pros

The leaders of the organization are well equipped to pull their teams to success. Each department leader leads by example and contributes greatly to the passion that motivates their colleagues. Employees at LawRoom are intrinsically motivated to do good in the world; the passion and commitment to educate people on ethical matters is easily felt in the office. Whether they encourage one and other or work over hours to meet the quarterly goal, the overall company has well established a culture of hard work and teamwork. Everyone in the company is tied to the underlying core mission of the company. People are willing to make room for mistakes and learn from their mistakes. The diversity in the office is incredible. Natives of Canada, India, Spain, Italy, Morocco, and other countries share their global perspectives everyday. This diversity has added a lot of value to debates, strategic decisions. The cross cultural ambiance in the office has increased job performance. My experience in LawRoom was priceless. I learned something new everyday, and was given an opportunity to share my ideas and perspectives with the decision makers of the company. I had a one-to-one mentorship with my manager who assigned me various projects. My manager made sure that I understood the objectives and the importance of the projects. I got to see how every project I worked on affected the company. LawRoom is truly a unique place to work that is a great fit for anyone that is intrinsically motivated to contribute great things to the world, and is willing to work hard to grow the company to its potential. Thank you ! Overall strengths: Visionary leaders, Heterogeneous team, a great cause, passionate company culture, huge potential. A hardworking company with great leaders.

Cons

Weaknesses: Lack of resources, benefits and perks. Since the company is still growing, there was a little disorganization across departments. The channel of communication from department to department was not the smoothest.

Pros

In general, a very talented and hardworking group of people. Developers work on courseware and LMS tools that pose genuinely fun technical and intellectual challenges, and get a lot of say into technology and architectural decisions. The technology stack is exciting and cutting edge. The training products are pro-social, and make a difference in the world that one can be proud of. The location is great: very close to bart and to the 680 freeway and it's in a great building.

Cons

Despite some of the other reviews here I feel employees are treated quite well, but I do see the following: Figuring out how to scale as the business grows very quickly is sometimes stressful. Compensation is sometimes not up to par with bay area levels (they're a smaller company competing with giants for tech resources). In some applications, legacy code with significant technical debt poses maintainability and extensibility challenges. The Dev team is still working through a transition to Agile methodology and needs to further improve story writing and backlog grooming processes.
