RUN AWAY unless you want it as a very TEMPORAL job - Interpreter LanguageLine Solutions Employee Review

Pros

-Homeoffice -Bonus in your first 3 and 6 months -Independence -Granted unpaid time off almost every time if you ask for it with some time in advance -Good salary for a student part-time job compared to anywhere else where they pay less in my experience.

Cons

Language Line works with a third party called Human Quality in Mexico that provides HR services just WRONG. Human Quality: -Do not grant the vacation time that is enforced by law, they advise you to pick unpaid time off only. -Do not pick up calls, answer e-mails about paycheck complaints, it is super hard to reach the “right” department for that. -They ask you to sign a letter in which you VOLUNTARILY QUIT IN ADVANCE before you even start working, if you don't sign it you won't get hired. They say it is because all interpreters work remotely so in case someone doesn't reply anymore they can drop them from the system. -You won't get any seniority in the company because they automatically renew contracts every year, forget about long term benefits. -The job itself is very emotionally draining, you may interpret emergency calls, from hospitals, jails, etc. and they don't provide constant and real psychological support. -BIG ONE: the "good salary" actually comes from bonuses like "punctuality bonus" that you don't really get extra, but that is how they break it down in the paycheck, so the actual “salary portion” is the minimum wage by law. Why is this wrong? Because the employer is entitled to pay a percentage to your retirement savings from the TOTAL SALARY PORTION of the paycheck. Therefore, they just pay the minimum plus less taxes that way.

Thank you for your 5-star review and for the more than one year you have been part of our team in Monterey. We are glad to hear that you feel supported by a well-organized company, as we strive to provide a structured and professional environment for our interpreters. We also appreciate your perspective on same-day assignments; flexibility is often part of the meaningful work we do to support clients when they need language access most. Thank you for the important role you play in delivering quality interpretation services.

Pros

We are given the tools to do the work and management is good. Very talented, small team of engineers. You are left alone for the most part.

Cons

Some managers are very abrasive and hard to deal with. Pay is dismal (better negotiate a good salary up front) and we haven't had raises in a long time. They don't even keep up with inflation, yet health insurance prices go up yearly. Bonus has no logic to it. It's decided by made up projected numbers that are completely unrealistic some years. There is very little guidance on where we are going except for one meeting a year.
