Disorganised, exploitative and soul-destroying - Project Manager Language Connect Employee Review

Pros

some genuinely kind and talented colleagues

Cons

Extremely poor working environment that hugely affects one’s physical and mental health Zero training, unstructured on-boarding process and disorganised ways of working Unprofessional and irresponsible management style with childish favouritism practice Ridiculously outdated technology and working process that fundamentally hinder efficiency Overwhelmingly unreasonable and exploitative workload paired with a sinister blame culture Treating employees like machines, even when employees are truly struggling and having to work overtime on a regular basis due to unrealistic targets and a complete lack of training, guidance and support, the blame is always directed to the individuals, who is not even provided with decent working conditions and efficient tools in the first place. Instead of looking into the root cause of all the mess and unpleasantness in the workplace and therefore actually invest in real training, better management and infrastructure improvement, they continue watching you drown in pressure and then blame you for not having good enough time management skills like an evil capitalist when you can no longer take your lunchbreaks. This is not a place for anyone who is truly passionate about languages and cares about quality. The goal is always to find a cheaper linguist and your own language skills will also be exploited, as on top of an already-unbearable workload, you will be constantly asked to check, review and even translate something for free as a favour, encouraged by a culture that makes people carry a moral burden to 'help out' despite being overwhelmed already. This is the place that will destroy your dreams and hopes for translation companies. I had never been this miserable and depressed in any other paid jobs before I joined them.

We are sorry to hear if there have been any issues in the processing of payment. We believe the matter in question has now been resolved but do get in contact if not. We pride ourselves on our prompt payment and are actually rated as 4.9 out of 5 by the freelance community under the category of “reasonable payment terms” in our Proz.com Blueboard ratings.

Pros

+ international atmosphere + lots of big clients + gain of industry awareness + lovely office location + many other interns

Cons

- offers too many services so that quality must be questioned - PM hardly know much about their own projects due to size of workload - most translation services are quality-assured which means that a non-speaker simply checks consistency and spelling without knowing the language; which can lead to major mistakes e.g. linguists that deliver Google machine translation without anyone noticing straight away - LCs trend goes towards quantity rather than quality - communication mainly on skype that might lead to misunderstanding - internship training program often reduced and thus daily work often the same; mainly QA checks - own intern projects are often little and language skills in languages other than English aren't needed for daily work - no in-house translations unfortunately although the majority of staff has a masters in translation or interpreting - minimum wage way too little for living in London
