Lancaster County - Nebraska

Is this your company?

Great money. It is corrections, so if that's not your preference, go elsewhere. I like what I do. - Correctional Officer Lancaster County - Nebraska Employee Review

Pros

Great pay. Unlimited overtime right now. Merit raises. AMAZING insurance. 100% match 401K. Several types of paid leave. Paid holidays. Comp bank you can refill for extra time off. No outside duties w/ exception of transports. Corrections isn't fore everyone but I love my job. Every job can be stressful but we are a family and we get each other's backs. I've enjoyed my time here and would never consider leaving. Fun work place with my friends. It's work. And you don't have to LOVE work. It's what pays the bills to do what you love. It's better than State corrections by a country mile. And we just got a HUGE raise for starting employees. APPLY NOW!! There are many openings.

Cons

Everyone will say administration. But who doesn't say administration when they work for a government agency? It's government. It's stressful. It is an extension of law enforcement. You will have bad days. But here, they pay you very well for what we do. There is a lot of overtime right now but everyone is understaffed as of this moment. 2022

Pros

The bad outweighs the good. Personal truck, lots of downtime in the truck. Outdoors daily. finish the project early? Sit around until we gotta head back to the shop for the day. Consistent hours, home daily, CDL required (if you don't have it, they will teach you).

Cons

The crew picks one person to discriminate against, and another to use as the social/verbal punching bag. Written up for things that others weren't; uneven standards. County is unable to abide by their own Union collective bargaining agreement. Took 1.5 years to renew it. 50 people a year come and go; some employees make the whole place toxic to work for, and of course they're entrenched so they're not going anywhere. They complain they're a revolving door for CDL certification - people would be more likely to stay if they weren't driven out. Thanks for saving me $3k, I guess.
