Pros
If you enjoy the challenges of working in a manufacturing environment with a fast-paced development-to-market cycle, or if you have an interest in the various applications for embedded systems, Kontron can be an interesting place to work.
Cons
Kontron is a a German-based multinational company, and the US accounts for only a small part of their production resources and market. So it can feel at times like Kontron US is little more than an afterthought. This also has an effect on management style. Important decisions, such as initiating layoffs or closing plants, are made in what feels like an information vacuum. In my own case, I was laid off without ever knowing what business conditions necessitated a reduction-in-force. One Friday afternoon, myself and several others (about 10% of manufacturing support staff) were simply shown the door. Since this decision was imposed from above, outside of the US management, I never held it against the people I worked for directly - just the faceless corporate types that made the decision.
