Pros

The location I work at overall has a really great crew (I truly believe how well the Co-workers interact and are able to work together can make or break any work experience). We're a smaller store, but all work hard to provide GREAT customer service. I like the (mostly) flexible schedule and repetitive job duties (this being a second job for me, the repetition is a welcomed break from my stressful, fast paced Clinical and Project Manager duties at my regular job). I have a high level of respect for the Kohl's Cares for Kids program and have really enjoyed the projects I've volunteered on- physically helping out various kid's organizations. Knowing my participation helps them earn money is very rewarding.

Cons

As much as I actually do enjoy working at Kohl's, every job has it's down side. Being a retail store, Black Friday is THE biggest day of the year. Unfortunately, aside from extenuating circumstances, don't expect to be able to request or take any time off during the months of November and December (major bummer if family is out of the area). While requesting time off well in advance during the rest of the year usually guarantees the time will be granted, any unexpected time off needs or requests can get tricky if you are unable to find someone else who is able to cover your department (for floor associates). After giving 3 years of service and then moving away for a year and a half, I was extremely dismayed to find when I moved back and reapplied that I was restarted at minimum wage- regardless my obvious prior employment and experience within the company. I've found more and more money its the bottom line regardless of staffing needs on the floor (I'm guessing the store manager easily makes more in monthly bonuses for staying under payroll budget than I make working PT on minimum wage). There has been a high level of turn over within our store's management (which surprised me. Employees I expected, but management???). I'm not sure if this is the norm, but all of the good ones we've had transferred to other stores... I'll leave it at that. The new store hours (open until 10 pm or 11 pm seem a little excessive given our location generally clears out around 8-9 pm, but I was told if I wanted to continue working there, I had to work until closing I could not request a schedule change that would essentially get me home before midnight (remember, 2nd job here, early AM start time at primary job). It can be frustrating when you have two different managers give you two different sets of instructions, then don't communicate to each other about it or one overrides the first one's instructions and the employee gets yelled at because they were doing what they were told... By someone else.

Cons

Little to no training been working here for almost a year now there’s still something I don’t know every day. What was most difficult for me was being at registers as I was trained in two days by shadowing someone. There are so many situations and problems that will come up every day and you will learn something new! They never taught me about Kohl’s cash, how to read receipts, reprint or edit receipts. They schedule so little so when you do learn something there’s no chance of rehearsal because you come in three weeks later working at a different department.
