Pros

The long hours of operation gives you a better chance at lots of hours, which can be both a pro and a con depending on your lifestyle. As EMR I'm getting a lot of hours especially with the holiday season looming. The management is pretty good at keeping employees on the loop regarding sale events and corporate events/deadlines with morning meetings. Other than that, there really are no other pros to working at Kohl's sadly.

Cons

Coworkers are generally grouchy - some of the people there have been around for years and seem like they're tired of what they're doing. Management is highly disorganized - at least at the Kohl's I work at - most just seem like head cashiers rather than actively managing employees under them. There's also a lot of pressure regarding meeting credit goals and email addresses for the register/floor people, MUCH MORE SO than other department stores I've worked for. It appears that Kohl's define a "good employee" by how many credit apps you get. This doesn't apply to me as an EMR associate though. The Kohl's I work at houses some of the most... aloof people I've met. People are.. "courteous", but generally not welcoming and disinterested in each other. Maybe that's just early morning people though (6am) or because EMRs spend most of the time on their own. Kohl's is pretty flexible with your schedule which is good for a college student like myself. The wage can be a lot better (state minimum wage) and everyone starts the same. I feel that there should be different starting levels in wages depending on your past experiences, AND ESPECIALLY depending on the work involved - for example, replenishment is nonstop moving, very physical, lifting, backstocking, loading/unloading truck, working on signage, and crushing cardboard - and yet the starting wage is the same as, for example, someone at POS. There's too much work for EMR for minimum wage. In short, my opinion is to look elsewhere first if you can offer a flexible schedule for the company. For example, the W*lmart in my area offered a full dollar more as starting wage.

Pros

Cons

Little to no training been working here for almost a year now there’s still something I don’t know every day. What was most difficult for me was being at registers as I was trained in two days by shadowing someone. There are so many situations and problems that will come up every day and you will learn something new! They never taught me about Kohl’s cash, how to read receipts, reprint or edit receipts. They schedule so little so when you do learn something there’s no chance of rehearsal because you come in three weeks later working at a different department.
