Pros
Compensation at initial start is decent in comparison to industry. Unionized for better job security. Decent benefits including defined benefit pension plan. CPI pre negotiated and provided as part of collective agreement.
Cons
Quickly pigeon holed meaning no room to move up. Lack of resources and training forcing you to put in additional hours to get the job done with no merit or recognition. Management does not recognize overtime efforts equals additional merit compensation. Merit compensation is capped to 1 to 2% annually. Union provides too many concessions to management this weakening the overall compensation, benefits and worker rights. Management is not progressive and stuck in the old styles of 80s with carrot or stick mentality. Headquarters (Kipling) is severely outdated and has crumbling buildings built from the 1960s that need major refurbishment. Zero office ambiance with rows of dated cubicles. Little to none after work employee programs or sports resulting in low morale in some departments.
