Pros

Competitive salary, excellent PTO accrual, decent benefits package

Cons

Kemper was once a phenomenal place to work. In 2009, Kemper suffered, as many other companies did, but never came back. Stock prices are way up, but it's all smoke and mirrors. Expense ratio prevails, and the solution is too lay off long time, dedicated employees. Leadership has no direction and is primarily filled with "yes-men" who basically fear challenging their superiors. Ironically, challenging the status quo is something that is promoted... Just don't do it. Everything changes from minute to minute so many departments don't really know what they are supposed to be doing. This leads to confusion across departments as department heads are not communicating with each other. Advancement is minimal. As other posts have mentioned, positions are filled by friends instead of by qualified employees deserving of advancement. Those who get hired are rarely qualified and try to change everything, therefore disrupting the course of business and reducing employee morale.

Pros

Pay and benefits, supportive coworkers, opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, and investigation skills. The role provided valuable experience in handling complex claims and making coverage and liability decisions.

Cons

High caseloads and demanding workloads can make it challenging to maintain work life balance. The job can be stressful at times due to deadlines, customer expectations, and the volume of claims.
