Pros

The fact that you are allowed to schedule claims as you see fit is a big pro. You are also allowed to use vendors to complete your inspections should your assignments be out of your immediate territory (80ish miles). The supervisor I worked for is fantastic and will go to bat for you when push comes to shove. Your word is golden. Field vs desk adjustments are really 50/50. This depends where you are located, obviously. The pay is beyond what the median salary is. Though commensurate with your experience, I've heard of level I adjusters making excess of $60k which, in my experience at least, is far greater than larger carriers. Lastly, management leaves you alone for the most part if you're completing your tasks in a timely fashion.

Cons

Training is lack luster. In comparison to other carriers, there is very little training. The software in place is great but the way we use it is absolutely abysmal. Everything you do is manual even with said software. You are the one uploading ALL documents into the claim file like dec pages for example. Carriers I have been with in the past already have this information. There is also the independent adjusting auditing as well as the mitigation review. Talk about impossible. Majority of your work is reviewing said files. We have this way of calculating mitigation costs using an excel sheet that is just unnecessary. We already have the guidelines and can simply have mitigation vendors adjust to our needs. This is needed in EVERY file obviously. My biggest gripe here is the lack of there being a "Kemper way" of adjusting claims. This goes back to the training. There is no CLEAR way of adjusting claims here and it causes massive work on your backend. CAT Duty: You are told deployment will be 2 weeks. And that is true but since there is no dedicated CAT team, you will be deployed often. If you have a family, this is not for you. Lastly, when you make a CORRECT coverage decision, it can be overturned when insureds complain enough. It not only makes it very awkward for you but you look like a fool in the eyes of the insured. Your workload will be near unbearable when you have backend work on all your claims. Don't get me wrong, there will be claims when you finish within a few days but most of your claims stay open for a long, long time.

Pros

Pay and benefits, supportive coworkers, opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, and investigation skills. The role provided valuable experience in handling complex claims and making coverage and liability decisions.

Cons

High caseloads and demanding workloads can make it challenging to maintain work life balance. The job can be stressful at times due to deadlines, customer expectations, and the volume of claims.
