Great company that needs some revamping - Store Manager Journeys Employee Review

Pros

- Great company. Passionate about promoting from within, charitable, they encourage you to be you. - Fun products - Music - Meet great people

Cons

- Discount. As a manager you get 40% off which sounds fantastic but its limited. You only get a certain amount to spend from you discount and when its gone its gone. You have to wait another month for it to kick in. - Hours. You will work more than the required 45 hours. Always. This is not a job for those who have responsibilities or lives outside of Journeys. Also, if your a manager be expected to work 6 days a week. Even if there are more than enough managers in your store you will still only get 1 day off. - Pay. You get a weekly base pay ( $150-$200 a week) and then 4% commission on your personal sales and less than 1% commission of what your store makes. If your a high volume store than this really wouldn't be an issue. But if your in a low income area you will struggle. Also, you will HAVE to pay your sales people minimum wage only. That makes it hard to attract experienced sales people because they will not accept minimum wage. - Selling. No one likes a pushy sales person and thats exactly what you have to be at Journeys. You are required to push socks, shirts, laces, cleaning kits, pants, back packs, and all their other silly accessories. I'm sorry but no one walks in a shoe store looking for a purse or a cat shirt. Also, the socks wouldn't be so hard to sell if they weren't $18-$30. - 4 on the floor. Journeys requires you to bring every customer 4 pairs of shoes. Every time. This gets messy. First off , unless your working in an area where someone has an extra $60 to blow on a pair of shoes, this won't work. 4 on the floor is unrealistic in low income areas 90% of the time. If you do not sell a person multiple pairs of shoes you will get in trouble. However thats unfair because it's all luck. Its not like your adding on something thats $3... Its an expensive pair of shoes. - Breaks. You might get one but you most likely won't. Since your pay is mostly dependent on sales taking a break really hurts you financially.

Pros

- Diversity & inclusion throughout employees - No dress code (other than inappropriate clothing obviously and occasional Journeys t-shirts during holidays) - Paid training - Flexible schedule (at least at my store)

Cons

- Horrible corporate mentality - Only the sales leads and above work on commission even though every employee has to HARD sell - Sales goals that are unrealistic and based off of the previous year's numbers - Little to no benefit for reaching or surpassing the ridiculous sales goals - District managers and corporate employees who say you're not good at your job unless you practically beg customers to buy socks and multiple pairs of shoes even if they came in knowing exactly what they want (to the point of annoying the customer) - Verbal, then write up, then immediate termination if you don't meet or surpass EVERY single category in your MPR (monthly progress report) - District managers who demote the best managers and transfer people to other stores with no say in the matter, as well as letting certain bad managers get away with things without reporting it - lowwwww pay for what is expected of the employee
