Pros

I’ve worked with a number of the top wine industry PR agencies. Very few of them have the blend of high performance, great company culture and thoughtful leadership. One on that rare list is Jarvis Communications. It starts at the top with their CEO Katherine Jarvis, who is unflappable, a brilliant PR strategist and truly a pleasure to work with. Then it trickles down to her team, all of whom are hard working, friendly and thoughtful. From the get go you get the sense that they truly enjoy what they do and make others feel the same. Plus they go the extra mile for the client. For example, I have watched them lure wine and lifestyle media at some of the big wine events - many of whom act like they’re too busy tasting to bother engaging with winery principals - to actually stop and take the time to talk to their clients about the wines.

Cons

The workplace at Jarvis Communications requires you to be at the top of your game. If you aren’t ready to jump in and turn a solid PR strategy into results this is not the place for you.

Pros

I was a part-time intern at Jarvis Communications for one quarter while studying at UCLA. I am so grateful for the mentorship and support I received that genuinely improved my strategic writing and research skills. They have a talented and thoughtful team that expertly serves an impressive list of clients in the wine industry. If you are interested in public relations this is a great office to gain some industry know-how and build your portfolio.

Cons

This team will invest in you if you invest and show interest in them. In a fast-paced work environment, when you are in a part-time position, it is up to you to get creative and carve out your role. You definitely get out of it what you put into it so stay curious and be willing to ask for responsibilities and feedback.
