Good challenges and decent benefits, but political dynamics hinder stability - Executive James Cook University Employee Review

Pros

School environment is good. Exposure to both administrative and site-based coordination work. Role gave a good challenge. Things were quite stable in my time but there were change in management halfway. The benefits are decent, including quite a generous amount of dental perks. Staff pantry has games like nitendo and ps5. HR has wellness and lunch & learn sessions. Safe working environment.

Cons

There are invisible politics in the sense where we have to manage perceptions carefully, anticipating reactions and navigating relationships for a smooth work life. The mental load comes from having to have dipomacy, manage people, interpretations, unspoken expectations on top of doing your actual job. Changes in HODs or managers within Operations division led to shift in working dynamics, which can impact workload distribution and manpower levels during periods of turnover. There is team restructuring and changes in personnel, or lack thereof. Remaining managers and team members facing increased demands. Some managers may promote a more monitored work environment involving colleagues to give some peers more unspoken oversight.
