Work with some fantastic people! (if you can stay clear of head office) - Community Support Worker Integra Support Services Employee Review

Pros

The people you support are amazing and will be the number one reason to stay in the job. Most sites are now unionized which massively increased pay and employee protection. Avoid the non-unionized sites. My particular site was a fantastic place to work. Loved my coworkers and I generally felt glad to get up and come in to work everyday. Most days are fun! You get to be part of a community and lead in community activities. If you're doing your job well most days will feel fairly easy. Challenging days will come as we do service many people with challenging behaviours, and these days might feel long and hard--but still very rewarding. People appreciate what you do!

Cons

Head office is toxic, clustered around a petty tyrant whose only method of fixing things is yelling "fix it" and then blaming you for the problem. They pick a person at random to target and harass them for a while before moving onto the next random target. No direction. The CEO is a nice person but she has no idea how the day-to-day runs. Payroll will constantly mess up your paystubs so you have to watch for that. However, if the mistake is in your favour they will try to take that money back (spoiler: that's illegal). Most sites are underfunded and understaffed. If you work in the residences they will constantly beg for overtime. The buildings and vehicles are in dire need of repair. They burn through coordinators like packs of cigarettes. They will bring in somebody new to a site with problems, not provide proper training to said coordinator, ignore any suggestions on improvement, blame the coordinator when things don't change within a couple months, deflect any criticisms from the coordinator of toxic/improper employment/service standards, fire said coordinator, and then rinse and repeat. Management will issue contradictory edicts that are logically impossible to follow (you can't have both A and B, as the two are mutually exclusive) and then get angry when they misunderstand the consequences. Aside from that, there are some amazing sites to work at under this organization. If you can steer clear of head office, which many do there best to do.

Pros

No shortage of work to be done

Cons

-head office will just keep piling the work at you -when you can’t keep up, it’s your fault, even though you’re doing 4 people’s work -you will work WAY more than your 35-40hrs, and be told that happens when you’re a coordinator. The fact that this is illegal doesn’t seem to matter -you will be told you have to be on a committee, and it’s often expected on your own time -you will be threatened. -You will be told you’re being fired if you can’t meet unrealistic expectations that are thrown last minute at you -head office gossips about EVERYONE. They sometimes will be nice to your face, but don’t believe it. -If you’re not in the building, you’re being talked about. -HR is 100% nepotism, the mother supervises the daughter… and both have the best offices in the building aside from the CEO. -Policy on nepotism isn’t applicable in HR though. -the CEO is rarely at work, and never has work on his desk
