Pros
Deli is paid better than cashiers. They manage to hire mostly good natured, easy to get along with people. They are great at working with your schedule. They are pretty good about giving requested days off too. Cotton swab in the mouth drug test is much less humiliating than the pee test. They pay better than minimum wage. Deli food service is less moving distance/hustle than a diner.
Cons
Ongoing double standards between day and night shift. Night shift is to do all sort of super gross work and never forget anything, while day shift only deals with food and customers. Day shift can leave dishes, trash, production, etc, but night shift will get mistreated if we do this. Day shift gets to leave exactly at the scheduled leaving time, but night shift must complete all work before leaving. Some of this comes with being the last shift out, but there should be a pay differential for the extra work load, shorter shift, smaller crew size. 20-30 hours per week max, sometimes less. Often short handed due to call outs. No incentive to work harder, efforts are not rewarded or seemingly noticed, or if they are they figure they can pile more on the work horse. yay!
