Pros

Hour lunch break Can have doctor appointments

Cons

This is a non-profit and like many they face challenges. The difference at In Our Own Voices as a historical nonprofit who is LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC centered you may assume a different work environment. That isn't here. Unfortunately between the CEO who does not take suggestion and must have their way. As well as the rest of the senior team and employees who are making due based on their position it's an unfortunate place to be. You will regularly hear staff state they are there because of the CEO. This mainly will be heard from those in administrative staff positions. Anyone who work here moving forward I hope you have an exit plan and use this as a buffer and do not expect to land here. Even if your expierence feels safe the rest of the Albany area knows how it is at In Our Own Voices. Your safety may crumble from you. I suggest the longest anyone should stay at this organization is 1 to 3 years. ____________________________________ The parts that hurt the most working there was the following: Everything is last minute even if it is planned out. In Our Own Voices not taking food pantry request seriously. It is supposed to be walk in. They require a call and appointment if people do. They would deny walk ins. There is also inefficient use of money as well as what is being bought. Consultants for social media and graphics who barely function in there job. They do not make deadlines. There is a waste of labor for events as there is never a plan for outreach to get information to the community. Yet in staff meetings we talk about numbers not always getting there besides the intervention team. In Our Own Voices made a name and have partnerships through grants. They have some legislative and political in and have supported in government initiatives. That is why they are funded. The output of the nonprofit isn't as it should be. They will make the issue about yourself. ____________________________________ For those taking the job. Have strong boundaries, a therapist, and an exit plan as soon as you sign on. We will continue to do this work and try. Value yourself more and know what you are taking on if you choose to work here.

Cons

- As communication is a core value, miscommunication happens somewhat frequently - Hierarchy is present - “Dress Code Policy”
