Pros
Working as an intern at IEM was an incredible learning experience. I was immediately given a project that I was responsible for completing. Unlike other companies where I have interned, at IEM it was my responsibility to complete the project and was not treated as an assistant to a full time employee. Because of the size of the company I was involved in all aspects of the project from design, to fabrication, and testing.
The projects are also highly technical and have minimal administrative tasks. For me, this means more of the fun work and less of the boring.
Overall, I am happy with my experience at IEM and it has set me up for a career in robotics.
Cons
Since a lot of responsibility is given to employees, deadlines can become stressful and long days may be required to finish jobs. Interns are given a low wage relative to other companies in the area and are not compensated for over time. This sets a stressful atmosphere in the company which, at times, makes it a not enjoyable work environment.
