Pros

Except for a select few, every employee is friendly to the customers and each other. The store is in an outer suburb of Des Moines, but it has more of a small town atmosphere than some of the small town Hy Vee stores that I have shopped. Flexible scheduling and easy to get a day or two off if you ask for it far enough ahead of time. It's a fun place to work and senior management will let you have fun, as long as it's in reason, it shows you're enjoying your work, and you're not neglecting the customer.

Cons

Part time can mean anything from 8 hours a week to 42 hours a week, depending on the time of year and how strapped the store is for help. You really have to work hard and prove yourself to earn that 25 cent raise. And just because you get promoted doesn't mean you're going to get much of an increase in pay with it. Some managers will show their appreciation for the hard work you do, but most of the time it appears unnoticed. Your coworkers notice it more and offer the praise that management can't bring themselves to vocalize.

Pros

I really enjoyed my coworkers and the management of the store. There were a handful of people who worked there at the time who weren't necessarily my favorite, but overall the team was good.

Cons

There we no significant cons. The pay is not the highest, but these are mainly entry level jobs.

Pros

Hy-Vee is a great company that truly cares about the communities we serve. Our 14 fundamentals drive both the customer and employee experience, guiding how we treat and serve our customers and each other. Leadership actively seeks employee feedback and uses it to drive meaningful change across all locations. There is a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities in many different areas of the company from retail to supply chain, IT, marketing, and so many more. obust employee benefits include tuition assistance for degrees, certifications, and foundational learning at little to no cost to employees, and the company focuses on promoting from within for most leadership roles.

Cons

As a 24/7 retail business, scheduling can be demanding in some roles — though the variety of positions means there's flexibility to find the right fit. With a large, decentralized workforce spread across hundreds of locations, consistent employee communication is an ongoing area of focus and improvement.
