Pros

Good introductory company for job seekers; there's lots of young faces, and the employees have a strong connection with one another that makes it feel like a solid work family. There's LOTS of opportunity to move up within the company; they focus specifically on promoting from within. If you're looking to start somewhere and move up into management, they're a great choice. Competitive salary for entry-level positions.

Cons

Each store is run by their own store manager, and if you aren't lucky enough to get a store manager that cares, or who promotes and hires good department heads and middle management, it's extremely frustrating. There were so many issues within the bakery I worked that we consistently brought, as a department, over and over all the way up to the store director level, that we were promised would be fixed.... that weren't. It led to a lot of boiling anger and helplessness that eventually led to me and a few others within my department turning in papers.

Pros

Hy-Vee is a great company that truly cares about the communities we serve. Our 14 fundamentals drive both the customer and employee experience, guiding how we treat and serve our customers and each other. Leadership actively seeks employee feedback and uses it to drive meaningful change across all locations. There is a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities in many different areas of the company from retail to supply chain, IT, marketing, and so many more. obust employee benefits include tuition assistance for degrees, certifications, and foundational learning at little to no cost to employees, and the company focuses on promoting from within for most leadership roles.

Cons

As a 24/7 retail business, scheduling can be demanding in some roles — though the variety of positions means there's flexibility to find the right fit. With a large, decentralized workforce spread across hundreds of locations, consistent employee communication is an ongoing area of focus and improvement.
