Unfairly Treated, Terrible Raises - Cashier/Courtesy Clerk Hy-Vee Employee Review

Pros

Benefits for full-time employees are good, hours can be decent during busy times of the year, and floor level management is mostly fantastic. Pretty easy to find someone to work for you, and the store is kept in good condition.

Cons

Let me just start off by saying Dress Code. Since last May we're required to wear a poorly fitted, incredibly cheap quality button up shirt. After the first wash, buttons fell off and Management told me to have them fixed, even though I had nothing to do with it. Upper Management treats all low-level employees like dirt. I am a very good, hard working employee and have worked at Hy-Vee for over a year and I'm treated as bad as the new kids that don't even try. The Raises are also a complete disappointment, $.25 after a year.

Pros

Paid breaks. Can be lazy and get the same pay as a hard worker.

Cons

Your high efforts are not rewarded. Benefits only include the time you put into retail that can be considered experience. Although you have the title for a specific position you will still be forced to complete tasks of another position. Although I was a checker, I was also put on hot food line, samples, cart duty, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning spills, watching self check out, stocking, and many more. Any sense of enjoyment with other coworkers gets shut down quick by management. Availability can be ignored by management. Lots of drama with coworkers. No penalty for inappropriate and unprofessional work. Management cares about business more than employees even though it is “employee owned”.
