Ability to meet amazing people within the community and positions of regional influence. Interesting stories in a busy community with the flexibility of a weekly publication. Because the company is so small, influential titles are given that are not representative of the true work required of any given position and expectations are not only not clear, they are inconsistent. Small team, however, cons outweigh the benefits of this feature for the reasons listed below of which not all were detailed. Opportunity to work on one digital and two print publications in an area of NY that is known internationally. That said, as a result of the mismanagement and other items listed below or otherwise, it is not the ideal situation it might appear to be.

Disorganized and mismanaged atmosphere. There is a blatant lack of respect that the senior staff demonstrates to the lower level employees at the publication. Stories worth coverage are often put off in favor of pursuing hearsay and completed articles are manipulated to the point of containing, at a minimum, misinformation and, in some cases, total and apparently intentional fabrication. I believe this inflammatory approach to the news was a result of an obsession to beat out a more popular competitor in the region. I often found myself questioning my judgement, despite having a solid education and arsenal of experience under my belt; after speaking with countless professionals in the field, I had the confirmation I needed that what was happening at the publication was not right and/or worthy of yet another chance.
