A Great Job Until It Wasn't - Software Developer HomeCU Employee Review

Pros

It WAS a great company to work for. There was plenty of growth and potential from management down to the individual. Some employees were there for 15+ years. There was plenty of projects to work on, and we were in the process of creating new features for larger credit unions. With COVID-19, we tested out capabilities to work from home and succeeded in that ability.

Cons

However, HomeCU got bought by new owners and five software developers were laid off. I don't know how the company looks now. But good management may no longer exist at the company. (It was not the new CEO's fault though. I cannot blame for that.)

Pros

I could see a great future with HomeCU. Plenty of employees were there for ten or more years. Hours were somewhat flexible. It was 8-5 usually but employees could shift a hour earlier or later. Usually, you didn't have to take off time for doctor appts or whatnot as long as you made it up. I would say that the PTO was quite reasonable. After the pandemic, there was a transition to work from home, which I think went well.

Cons

After they were bought by another company, half the employees were laid off. The ongoing project to add features for large credit unions was scrapped I think. The building was changed but still everything shows the old address. The tech stack was changed. This was git but that is no longer. I'm not sure what they are using now. I also don't know the other company as they seem to be very secretive about the whole thing.
