Great place except for the worst IT department I have ever worked with! - Trainer Hitachi Rail Employee Review

Pros

Great informal work atmosphere with little pressure and a nice mix of in office and shop floor experiences. Creativity is encouraged although things can be a little too loose at times.

Cons

Do not apply if your role will be even slightly digital. IT will hamper, evade and disrupt your duties on a daily basis. Their user support is dismal and any non standard request will be met with years of red tape. They will impose regular stealth security changes without any communication or thought to how it may affect the business. Its normal to be without a laptop for weeks at a time. Other than IT, there is a culture of not being accountable which can cause deadlines to fly by without a word from those responsible.

Plenty of projects to keep you busy and interested.

Cons

The Pittsburgh office ran really well with Remote work, now they're becoming Big Brother.

Pros

Nice location near downtown and Southside. Half the building has a view of the river. Benefits are competitive (medical, dental, vision). Free garage parking across the street.

Cons

The employee perks have continuously declined over time. They used to have a nice catered Christmas party that disappeared during the pandemic and never returned. They used to have a common sense policy for meals while traveling, but that was just replaced with limits for each meal that are inadequate if you are traveling to a major city. They are also starting to track how many days each person comes to the office and seem to value that more than the results produced by each person. The company also does not reward people for going above and beyond, such as working significant overtime, working night shift at site, etc.
