Pros

Employee benefits: hour compensation, canteen, free coffee. Salary is just ok

Cons

(NOTE: I am posting this review because working in this company was affecting my health and personal life. I am aware of several former and current employees in the same situation) The company was acquired by Hitachi Ltd between 2018 and 2020. So far, this has been a wasted investment. There is nothing remaining of ABB's good reputation. The focus is on output maximization at any cost (quality, safety, development, etc.). - **Corrupted management:** Favoritism towards friends and family is quite frequent when filling management positions. --> Result: Fewer competent people, leading to all kind of problems. - **Internal knowledge loss:** Senior employees frequently left the company and were replaced by inexperienced people. --> Result: More issues and increased workload for everyone. This pattern occurred in every department and escalated in a chain reaction. - **Toxic environment:** Chaos takes over the daily business of every department. --> Result: Everyone is stressed out, leading to tense situations between colleagues. - **No HR presence:** There is no professional, neutral oversight (recruitment, performance management, learning and development, career planning, employee evaluation, etc.). --> Result: Managers gain control over these aspects, often to their benefit. - **No company culture** --> Result: No interest in long-term improvement. If someone leaves, they are simply replaced. It is strictly about working for money. External neutral complaints don't work. I submitted my concerns to the official external neutral tool for complaints, NAVEX EthicsPoint, almost 2 years ago, and I haven't received a response. ---

Pros

The internship has been a genuinely good mix of research, engineering, and practical software work. I have been giving meaningful technical problems instead of busy work, with enough freedom to explore solutions while still having support from experienced engineers. The team culture is collaborative, thoughtful, and very open to questions. I have learned a lot about power systems, simulation software, high-performance computing, and how research ideas turn into tools that actually support engineering work

Cons

Like many large organizations, some processes can move slowly, especially around software access, approvals, and tooling. It can take time to get the full development environment set up, and working across different systems. That said, most of the issues are structural rather than team-related
