Cons
I joined this startup expecting to take the lead in digital advertising and online marketing. While there were opportunities to contribute, I quickly realized that the role came with unexpected challenges, particularly in terms of leadership dynamics and workflow management.
One key issue was the approach to team management. Frequent meetings were held, often with a strong focus on oversight rather than strategy, which affected productivity. Responsibilities were sometimes unclear, and work delegation felt uneven, with some tasks being reassigned to individuals outside their areas of expertise. Additionally, despite digital marketing being a crucial component in real estate lead generation, there seemed to be a lack of understanding of its strategic value. Suggestions that digital marketing could be entirely self-taught through online resources undervalued the expertise required for success in this field.
The workplace culture also posed challenges. There was a noticeable divide in team dynamics, and differing opinions were sometimes met with resistance. Constructive feedback was not always well-received, and this occasionally created a tense work environment. Given the small office setting, collaboration was essential, but team cohesion was sometimes hindered by internal politics.
From an organizational standpoint, job security was a significant concern. Changes in staffing appeared to happen abruptly, with limited communication regarding role expectations and long-term planning. Additionally, while hard work was expected, appreciation for extra efforts and overtime was not always evident.
