Pros
I loved Arkadelphia and the people that lived there. I loved the people I worked with and who worked at the university. They were lovely wonderful people and I can't say enough good things about them. The town itself has some great natural sights and places to go in the summer. HSU had great benefits and a great sense of family.
Cons
The bureaucracy at this college was a huge disappointment. The Library, arguably the best place on campus was woefully underfunded, often having to put buckets out to catch leaks, and resorting to preparing many damaged books rather than ordering new ones. Their staff was underpaid, and I was as well. I was told it would need to be added to the budget for me to get a raise, which was only possible once a year. I missed that the first year, but I stayed, and requested a raise on time the next year. My boss informed me he had "misplaced my paper work" and was "very sorry." We both knew I was doing more work and had more skills than they could afford, but I had stayed so long because it was such a great place. At this point I found a new job paying twice what I was making. After turning in my two weeks notice, I was informed that I magically had my raise approved. No budgetary committee or anything! Imagine that! Too little too late and the faux reality that I had lived in where that type of thing was impossible, was just the icing on the cake.
