Pros
A place to get procurement experience, but not really to advance your career. It's a good place to network and connect with people from hospitals and vendors. Health benefits and pension are great. The staff outside of upper management are nice.
Cons
The workload is too much for the little pay. The annual salary increases are a joke and frankly, unfair (there is no such thing as a performance review yet raises are entirely subjective to those handing them out). I.T. and available technology is severely lacking and should have been invested in years ago. They can hardly keep up and many of the tasks are tedious - a robot can do a lot of the work that's currently being done by smart, thoughtful individuals. The talent of most of these people is being wasted and some get promoted for the wrong reasons. There is little room for advancement and very few growth opportunity. Upper management is gossipy, emotional and not respected by those under them. Everyone throws each other under the bus and doesn't take responsibility for the mess of a corporate culture that exists in the organization. The attitude starts from the top and that's evident. Employees have feelings...start treating them like human beings. Having said that, there's a reason there is still no HR department.
