I am not saying that Health First is perfect, and I have butted heads with management a few times over the past decade, but in the end, I do believe that they always listened and did what they could to address concerns and issues.
If I had one major issue with Health First, it would be that the way they have set up their Health Insurance, especially the High Value plan, which suggests coverage exists in-network for services, when in reality, there are times when no providers are available, and they will not always make exceptions. I am not opposed to how they run the High Value plan, as it is an exceptional value, but I think the way they document it in the employee benefits book is misleading. The middle plan addresses these issues, but creates expenses where none existed for Health First providers on the High Value plan, which I feel disincentivizes the use of our own providers, which would also save Health First money, but at least it is clearly documented.
That said, the coverage is still great on either plan as long as you know what you are selecting. It is certainly some of the best value for the cost of health insurance I have ever had.
If I had to list any other downsides, it might be that we are busy, especially recently, but I expected that with this sort of job, and as mentioned before, when things get crazy, management makes it right for us.
Health First is not perfect, but I believe they genuinely want what is best for our associates and our community. I also feel that my team and I make a real difference.
